We debated (and argued) long and hard about the recent hoopla over the point and rank system. Before we tell you how we are responding, we want to make a few things clear:

1. We listen to our members …sometimes too much ;)
2. We act on member feedback
3. We firmly believe that FishAddix.com members can change the fishing world by sharing information and connecting with each other
4. Our #1 goal is to create the best tool ever created for anglers around the world

The point and rank system was created to encourage members to share information and connect with each other. It was designed to reward FishAddix members who share and add value to the community. We did not envision for it to reflect who the best fisherman was or who necessarily caught the most fish. Leaderboards such as Lunker Hunter and Experience were designed to showcase the best angler feats on the FishAddix.

We’ve read all of your comments and understand that the FishAddix point and rank system is taken very seriously. We understand that your rank represents a culmination of all that you have done on FishAddix, not just what you have shared but also what you have achieved.

In order to be fair to all members (old, new, and those that have yet to join), we’ve decided to expand and redefine the leaderboard adding a new more important ranking — Current Rank.

What is the Current Rank and how is it calculated?

• The Current Rank reflects FishAddix members’ contribution to the community this year
• You earn points by posting reports and content from the current year only
• Reports from previous years earn points towards your All Time Rank, but do not contribute to your Current Rank
• The Current Rank will become the most important rank and therefore will be displayed under your avatar and on the Current Rank Leaderboard
• The Current Rank will be the default leaderboard

What is the All Time Rank?

• The All Time Rank reflects a FishAddix member’s total contribution to the community
• You earn points in the same method, but we also include points for old fishing reports, regardless of the year they occurred
• The All Time Rank will be displayed on the All Time Rank leaderboard

To encourage members to continue to post all reports, we felt it was important to continue rewarding members, even though the reports may be from previous years. While some of you may not find value in these reports, we feel that some anglers may. Old information is still far more valuable than no information at all, especially when you are new, looking for a place to fish, or trying to learn how to catch a new species.

As a new additional feature, you will soon begin seeing your Current Catch Count showing up in your profile and after your name in the Feed. This will display your current catches from this year and show off what you have been able to achieve recently. All time catches and stats are still recorded, but the current catches will display who is currently catching fish.

We encourage you to maximize the power of FishAddix to serve as your multimedia fishing log. Use it in for your own benefit or for the benefit of others; use it in your own personal style.

We also encourage you to continue to engage us in the conversation and help us create the best tool for you.

More than 180,000 trout will have been stocked in 88 streams and 90 ponds and lakes throughout New Jersey for the opening at 8 a.m. on Saturday. By the end of May nearly 600,000 trout will be stocked throughout the state.

The “production trout” average 10.5” but more than 6,000 huge broodstock trout are also being stocked. Those trout will be in addition to some of the 26,000 bruisers still in the water from stockings last fall and winter.

Ten ponds and small lakes will get an extra allocation of 30 to 50 broodstock trout that measure 17 inches to 24 inches and weigh 3 pounds to 8 pounds. Locations of the ten Bonus Broodstock Ponds and Lakes are linked from http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/trtinfo_spring.htm .
We had the pleasure of interviewing Karen Wall, the Managing Editor of The Fishermen Magazine. The Fishermen Magazine is New Jersey’s most-read fishing magazine. The Fishermen reaches over ninety thousand anglers each week! As the Fishing Track sponsor for GSOSS, she pointed out a number of reasons why this year’s show is the best one yet.:

· Top Notch Fishing Seminars: The strong cohort of instructors have something to offer every angler. Whether you are novice, a seasoned veteran, salt or freshwater focused, this years lineup is packed with quality instruction that is gauntleted to improve your skills. Lean how Jim Sammons did it and much more at the Garden State Outdoor Sportsmen’s Show (GSOSS)

January 13-16, 2011

NJ Convention & Expo Center at Raritan Center

Edison, New Jersey

www.GSOSS.com

The kayak fishing pioneer, Jim Sammons, is a featured speaker at this years action packed GSOSS. You may know Jim from his show on WFN or some of his viral youtube videos.

Jim holds the distinction of landing the first, and only California caught Marlin from a kayak. He has also landed Thresher sharks up to two hundred pounds and a personal best Yellowtail of forty-five pounds all while fishing the La Jolla coast from his Ocean Kayak. Some of Jim’s proudest accomplishments are guiding more clients to Billfish from a kayak than any other kayak fishing guide in the world, starting the La Jolla Kayak Fishing Billfish club, and setting kayak fishing records with a 65 pound bull Dorado and a 125 pound Yellowfin Tuna.

Captain Mike Corblie of the American Fly Fishing Schools will also lead many of the seminars focused on fly casting in fresh and saltwater. Jim, along with Captain Mike Corblie, will take advantage of the state of the art SIMUL-CAST POND. The pond is 50’ long casting pond that is 16’ wide by 2’ deep! That’s plenty of real estate to teach some of the finer points of kayak fishing and fly-casting.

Check out the seminar schedule here. Tell them the FishAddix team sent you!

GOT SUSHI ? Mike Livingston a 63 year old retired school administrator from Sunland Ca. has 405 pounds of Sushi now. He went on a 10 day fishing trip based out of San Diego on the Vagabond with Mike Lackey as the Captain.
Angler Livingston told me he ” hoped to get a 200 pound tuna” But got one 400 pounds and a WORLD RECORD !!!
He said it was a ” trip of a lifetime” and never had a doubt during the 2 1/2 hours he fought the Tuna that he would not bring it in all by himself.
It took 6 gaffs and all the deckhands to get it aboard the Vagabond.
The Tuna was lowered into a Toyota Pick up and taken to the taxidermist for mounting.

Welcome back to Chipty’s world and thanks for reading my special Halloween Edition. Now you must be thinking, how on earth can you relate fishing and Halloween, other than, going fishing on Halloween? Well, yours truly has done it. And let’s be honest… that’s kind of the reason why I write these things and you guys read them (that was quite a pat on the back – yes, I’m shameless).

The Halloween Edition came as a request, straight from the top, and I’ll be honest, the first thing that came to mind was an 18th installment of the ever frightening – and still classic – Jason movies. Jason returns with a fishing rod? Or, “Oh no, Jason Forgot his Tacklebox.” How about a futuristic one where Jason wires all the lakes on the planet with TNT and kills all aquatic life as we know it, which in turn, sours our water sources and eventually wipes out the planet. Alright, sounds more like a Dr. Evil plot but, in any event, I decided not to go the Jason route.

Instead, I put together the Top 10 Reasons why Fishing is Better than Halloween. I hope you guys enjoy, and if you’re feeling saucy, post your favorite reasons why fishing is better than Halloween in the comments section below. Or as always, email them to me (or suggestions, comments, concerns, phone numbers) at Chipty@FishAddix.com.

Top 10 Reasons Why Fishing is Better than Halloween:

  10)	If a witch (or other strange creature) crosses your path while you’re fishing, you can STAB it and you’ll be the stuff legends are made of.

9)	While fishing, treats come in the 3lb variety, instead of individually wrapped.

8)	You don’t HAVE TO bring your wife/spouse with you (you can though, ya know, as an option).

7)	You get to dress like a tool all year round – instead of just once a year (yeah that means you – in the vest with all sorts of lures attached to it… and that hat… uhhhgggg).

6)	If you are fishing, then you’re not at home, so who cares who knocks at the door.

5)	You don’t mind seeing the biggons’ (big ones) in fish nets (in fact – you kind of like it).

4)	You don’t have to inspect your food when you’re fishing because you didn’t get it from the crack den in the next town that everyone knows about but never mentions.

3)	You can still go out and fish when you’re 30 years old and people won’t judge you (or kick you off their porch – not that you’d be fishing on someone’s porch, but you could be).

2)	If you say, “lure it,” people don’t think you’re a pedophile.

1)	If a sexy nurse/cop/school girl (of age of course) comes and talks to you while you’re fishing, it’s not because they are looking for free candy (although they might be looking for something else – yeah you know what I’m talking about “big guy”……. directions of course).

Well I hope you guys enjoyed the Halloween article. I hope to hear from you guys soon, with comments or suggestions. Thanks for reading.

Here are a few tips on how you can quickly increase your exposure to interested fishermen for FREE:

1. Post Content!

In today’s electronic world, posting timely and detailed content keeps customers coming back to you and your business time and again. Because of websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and FishAddix, posting and sharing your content has never been easier, more effective, or cost-efficient. There is literally no reason for you to overlook actively posting your business and fishing information on all three of these websites. (Here are a few great examples: HFO, Fishing-Guy, Fishing-Guy Site)

2. Hook it Up!

Linking your Facebook and FishAddix profiles ensures that the rich content posted on FishAddix, shares across your Facebook network, reaching an even larger audience with limited time investment on your side. (Linking can be done with ONE step at FishAddix.com)

3. Constantly post high quality fishing reports!

Posting quality Fishing information is key to grabbing your audience’s attention. Add useful fishing tips and details into your reports, but also add important keywords for your business and don’t forget to link back to your own website. Remember to leave a quality signature; your full name, website, email, phone, and Facebook fan page URL. (FishAddix maintains the best fishing report features available and adding reports will automatically also add that report to your Facebook page as well) Here’s an example of an outstanding report by Captain Ken. Notice the high quality story and links back to his site.

4. Link it Up!

Be sure to add links to your posted content on your webpage (especially link to your fishing reports). This will help to increase the Google Page Rank of your content, while at the same time promoting your business and content even further across the web.

5. Create Rich Media

Utilize pictures and videos to your advantage by posting small amounts of them, but post them often. HFO (Hookin Fish Online) is an excellent business case of how to promote your business online via videos. Searching Bing.com for HFO fishing, displays first page search results for HFO’s FishAddix videos. Materials needed, only a camera, short clips, and fishing trips. By posting a cross media mix of pictures, videos, and fishing reports, he is achieving high content page views everyday!

6. Invite Your Address Books!

Utilizing the invite features on both Facebook and FishAddix will immediately and drastically expand the amount of future customers which your content is delivered too. Content, audience, and customer sales go hand in hand. Make sure ALL of your potential customers know about the information you are making available. When fishermen see your expertise, they will know you are the knowledgeable, credible fishing source they are looking for.

Captain Ken sailed offshore New York on Saturday with three very pumped and bold anglers.
First-time guest, James Valdes; jetty-man, David Shup, and the “Tornado Reni” proved to be an excellent crew when running offshore for the extremely challenging and prized Atlantic Bluefin Tuna.

Lines were in no later than 7am after a 3 hour long-haul covering 55 miles of open ocean.

By the time we got the first bait down on the planer board and set in the troll putting out more lines, the reel on the Avet 30 wide began singing while strapped to a bouncing broom stick was the first indication that we had found are intended target. Quickly, I handed the rod to Jimmy while the rest of the crew bagan clearing lines. The fish didnt seem too big at first, and Jimmy made quick work of getting the fish to the boat but what Jimmy didnt expect was for the fish to make three knuckle-busting and finger blistering runs right at the boat!!!
With teamwork and some sweat, we brought the 45 inch bluefin into the boat!

Dave Shupp of Sportfish Productions was also quick on the draw and had the one-eyed monster out with lens focused directly on the show!

First mate Rob Reni worked the decks like no other and just before we brought our first tuna over the gunnel, he had hooked up with another fish when he dropped that 200g jig right on the head of another hardtail!

It only took a few seconds to realize that we were covered up and a simple look into the crystal clear blue water showed that a feeding frenzy of three species was occurring directly below us! You could easily see the false albacore sprinting through the water in all directions, while the skipjacks were also mixed in at another layer in the water column. And we all knew that the bluefin tunas were sitting below the other two species just cleaning up the mess!

Quite a few other falsies and skippies were caught and Dave Shupp had a run off on two fish that he couldnt even slow down even with his Van Stall which has up to 20lbs of drag.

At one point while Dave was fighting one of these unseen monsters, the line snapped and with my back turned i said, “Oooo-wee, I heard that line snap just like the sound of a .22 caliber rifle!”

Once the drift moved us off the fish, we got back up on the troll we picked up another skipjack and several more false albacore and circled back through the area a few more times trying to drum up another bluefin.

After working several other areas on the drift, troll, and chunking, we decided that we had had enough of the 3-4 foot seas and turned the bow towards shore, plotted our course, and edged the motors up to 15 knots. within an hour the wind let up, and we upped the speed to 20knots. Within another 30 minutes the seas flattened out , we cranked the motors up to 30 knots and luckily made the ride home the most comfortable part of a 14 hour voyage!

Back at the dock, more high-5’s were passed around with all four of us to be happily and finally attached to terra-firma!

To all of my crew yesterday, i want to say “Thank you” for being part of another wonderful and successful day enjoying the best New York can offer!

Photos have been uploaded tonight, and a video will be posted tomorrow so check back then for more updates!

Oh yeah, aparently iI just cant get enough and went out this morning “nearshore” and pulled off an Inshore Grand Slam! Will be posting that report tomorrow since my eyes are burning and i am slumped over in the chair even now as i type this!

Again I say! If not, you’re not alone. Nearly 67% of New Jersey trout anglers surveyed in 2009 were not aware of this major stocking change implemented by NJDEP’s Division of Fish and Wildlife.

The 33% of New Jersey trout anglers who do know about the fall and winter big trout bonanza couldn’t be happier. A growing number of them now eagerly await the big fish, cool water, great weather and spectacular scenery of New Jersey’s fall trout fishing season. And it doesn’t end with fall; hot trout fishing action extends through the winter months until spring stocking begins again in April.

From October 5 through November 24, more than 26,000 super-sized trout will be stocked in 16 streams and 40 ponds and lakes throughout the state. Any of these fabulous fish could very well be a once-in-a-lifetime trout for many anglers. See the YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQDmeHajqSI for some great footage of the fall and winter lunker trout as they’re loaded on trucks at the Pequest Hatchery and then stocked in New Jersey streams.

Don’t miss out on New Jersey’s spectacular fall and winter trout fishing. If you haven’t gone trout fishing yet this year, simply buy and print your fishing license and trout stamp online at http://www.wildlifelicense.com/nj/. It’s that easy.

Hey Anglers,

No Points? No Problem! Maybe the weather hasn’t been great around you (we are in hurricane season here in the North East)… or maybe there are too many chores preventing you from hitting your local fishing hole…

Don’t let that stop you from earning some free Addix points and climbing up the ranks!

Here are a few helpful hints on how to increase your rank and level, until the wife lets you out of the house again (and we don’t mean for that trip to the in-laws):

1. Post Places to Fish: 5 points for each pond, lake, river, ocean, or beach you feel like adding… no cap on these points so add your favorite or not so favorite places to fish and rack up some quick and easy points while helping out other anglers…

2. Post a Video: 5 points for each video or Embed a bunch of Videos at 2 points each: Fishermen love watching videos… feed your fellow anglers their visual candies. (The legal department wants us to mention that FishAddix does not condone or approve voyeurism – so let’s keep ‘em clean.)

3. Start A Feeding Frenzy: Rack up points for posting anything that other members decide to comment on… each comment is worth 1 point, 10 comments = 10 points!

4. Dig out those old Pictures: Post pictures and get 1 point each… everyone loves those retro fishing pictures with the overalls, the zebco fishing reels, and those monster sunfish :)

5. Secure yourself some Bonus Points: Each month big time bonus points are awarded to the top anglers. The number 1 bestest most toppest coolest way of locking down those Bonus Points is to be sure to post fishing reports each and every time you go fishing. (10 points per fishing report too!)

There are tons of other ways to get more Addix points too, but we just wanted to highlight some of the quick and dirty ways of making sure your rank and level keep propelling you towards the top.

Tight Lines Everyone!

Joe & James
