As a fisherman, what are your thoughts on this tragic oil spill?

What sort of impact do you think this oil spill will realistically have on the local fisheries along the Gulf Coast?  What about the general environmental impact?  Should BP be forced to pay back wages lost from local fishermen who can no longer fish these waters, in addition to all the clean up work?  Do you think this disaster will have a lasting impact in the area for years to come?  Should we even be drilling offshore if these accidents are possible, or perhaps we need much tighter security checks and restrictions?  These are the types of questions we should all be thinking about and potentially answering right now.
Personally, I am not sure the risks we take are worth the rewards.  BP has lost billions of dollars and we cannot even begin to estimate the environmental toll (not including the unfortunate human life toll).  Who knows if something like this will have a lasting impact spread over years or even decades…  Many people are tracking the oil spill using home made camera crews made up of balloons with cameras attached to them.  This is a great idea to ensure that everyone is aware of what is going on, but it’s not enough…
