The Garden State Deer Classic is presented each year to feature the outstanding white-tailed deer harvested during the previous year’s hunting seasons and recognize the hunters who took them. This year more than 50 of New Jersey’s most outstanding white-tailed deer from this year’s hunting season will be on display in a newly refurbished exhibit area.
Deer Classic Highlights:
· Several Bucks over 200 Pounds
· A 180-class Buck (non-typical, Boon Crockett)
The Classic is sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW), New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, United Bowhunters of New Jersey and the Garden State Outdoor Sportsmen’s & Adventure Show.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Karen Wall, the Managing Editor of The Fishermen Magazine. The Fishermen Magazine is New Jersey’s most-read fishing magazine. The Fishermen reaches over ninety thousand anglers each week! As the Fishing Track sponsor for GSOSS, she pointed out a number of reasons why this year’s show is the best one yet.:
· Top Notch Fishing Seminars: The strong cohort of instructors have something to offer every angler. Whether you are novice, a seasoned veteran, salt or freshwater focused, this years lineup is packed with quality instruction that is gauntleted to improve your skills. With the growth of Kayak fishing, GSOSS has recruited some of the best kayak fishermen to use state of the art indoor pond to teach the finer points of the sport.
· Balance: Just like The Fishermen Magazine, GSOSS is focused on delivering well-balanced content to meet the needs of New Jersey anglers. With over 50 seminars and 250 exhibitors, the GSOSS is packed with top-notch education and entertainment.

The kayak fishing pioneer, Jim Sammons, is a featured speaker at this years action packed GSOSS. You may know Jim from his show on WFN or some of his viral youtube videos.
Jim holds the distinction of landing the first, and only California caught Marlin from a kayak. He has also landed Thresher sharks up to two hundred pounds and a personal best Yellowtail of forty-five pounds all while fishing the La Jolla coast from his Ocean Kayak. Some of Jim’s proudest accomplishments are guiding more clients to Billfish from a kayak than any other kayak fishing guide in the world, starting the La Jolla Kayak Fishing Billfish club, and setting kayak fishing records with a 65 pound bull Dorado and a 125 pound Yellowfin Tuna.
Captain Mike Corblie of the American Fly Fishing Schools will also lead many of the seminars focused on fly casting in fresh and saltwater. Jim, along with Captain Mike Corblie, will take advantage of the state of the art SIMUL-CAST POND. The pond is 50’ long casting pond that is 16’ wide by 2’ deep! That’s plenty of real estate to teach some of the finer points of kayak fishing and fly-casting.
