Decision on Member Feedback - Fishing Content

Fellow Fish Addix,

We debated (and argued) long and hard about the recent hoopla over the point and rank system. Before we tell you how we are responding, we want to make a few things clear:

1. We listen to our members …sometimes too much ;)
2. We act on member feedback
3. We firmly believe that
FishAddix.com members can change the fishing world by sharing information and connecting with each other
4. Our #1 goal is to create the best tool ever created for anglers around the world

The point and rank system was created to encourage members to share information and connect with each other. It was designed to reward FishAddix members who share and add value to the community. We did not envision for it to reflect who the best fisherman was or who necessarily caught the most fish. Leaderboards such as Lunker Hunter and Experience were designed to showcase the best angler feats on the FishAddix.

We’ve read all of your comments and understand that the FishAddix point and rank system is taken very seriously. We understand that your rank represents a culmination of all that you have done on FishAddix, not just what you have shared but also what you have achieved.

In order to be fair to all members (old, new, and those that have yet to join), we’ve decided to expand and redefine the leaderboard adding a new more important ranking — Current Rank.

What is the Current Rank and how is it calculated?

The Current Rank reflects FishAddix members’ contribution to the community this year
You earn points by posting reports and content from the current year only
Reports from previous years earn points towards your All Time Rank, but do not contribute to your Current Rank
The Current Rank will become the most important rank and therefore will be displayed under your avatar and on the Current Rank Leaderboard
The Current Rank will be the default leaderboard

What is the All Time Rank?

The All Time Rank reflects a FishAddix member’s total contribution to the community
You earn points in the same method, but we also include points for old fishing reports, regardless of the year they occurred
The All Time Rank will be displayed on the All Time Rank leaderboard

To encourage members to continue to post all reports, we felt it was important to continue rewarding members, even though the reports may be from previous years.  While some of you may not find value in these reports, we feel that some anglers may.  Old information is still far more valuable than no information at all, especially when you are new, looking for a place to fish, or trying to learn how to catch a new species.

As a new additional feature, you will soon begin seeing your Current Catch Count showing up in your profile and after your name in the Feed.  This will display your current catches from this year and show off what you have been able to achieve recently.  All time catches and stats are still recorded, but the current catches will display who is currently catching fish.

We encourage you to maximize the power of FishAddix to serve as your multimedia fishing log.  Use it in for your own benefit or for the benefit of others; use it in your own personal style.

We also encourage you to continue to engage us in the conversation and help us create the best tool for you.

Your Fellow FishAddix,

James and Joe

NJ Trout Season Opens Saturday April 9

The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife recognizes that the opening day of trout season is the most anticipated day on the New Jersey fishing calendar, and with good reason. More than 180,000 trout will have been stocked in 88 streams and 90 ponds and lakes throughout New  Jersey for the opening at 8 a.m. on Saturday. By the end of May nearly 600,000 trout will be stocked throughout the state.

The “production trout” average 10.5” but more than 6,000 huge broodstock trout are also being stocked. Those trout will be in addition to some of the 26,000 bruisers still in the water from stockings last fall and winter.

Ten ponds and small lakes will get an extra allocation of 30 to 50 broodstock trout that measure 17 inches to 24 inches and weigh 3 pounds to 8 pounds. Locations of the ten Bonus Broodstock Ponds and Lakes are linked from http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/trtinfo_spring.htm . Weekly in-season stocking  information is also available from that page or by calling the Trout Stocking Hotline,609-633-6765.

There’s a reason the number of New Jersey trout anglers has increased more than 20 percent during the past five  years. It’s because trout fishing has never been better in the Garden State. Don’t miss out this year - join the growing group of anglers who know the value and quality of New Jersey trout  fishing.

Buying a license and trout stamp is easier than ever and in just minutes you can be on your way to enjoying some time in the outdoors while experiencing the thrill of trout  fishing in New Jersey. Simply visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/ to buy and print your fishing license and trout stamp online. License buyers have the satisfaction of knowing 100 percent of their money goes toward improving fishing in  New Jersey and protecting the quality of the state’s waters both for fish and people.
